My priorities for Colwood

1. 

   Putting more focus on the city’s finances

   Council needs to put more emphasis on the city’s financial plan to better align expansion of city services with community growth. We need to get the balance right, so property taxes remain reasonable while delivering needed services. We need a better process that supports Council with the information needed to make the tough choices ahead.

   My priority if elected is to put more Council focus on the city’s financial planning because a good financial plan is what commits financial resources to priorities and delivers the services residents expect.

2. 

   Building the infrastructure our growing city needs

   For the past decade Colwood approved major rezonings like Latoria North, Latoria South and Beachlands. These developments are now well underway. Our community is starting to feel the pressure that rapid growth creates for expanded city infrastructure particularly on our roads.

   My priority if elected is to ensure Council focuses on completing the long-term planning required for Colwood’s future infrastructure along with a funding strategy so the infrastructure we need starts getting delivered.

3. 

   Planning for every neighbourhood

   It’s time to start focusing Colwood’s planning on our established neighbourhoods like Wishart, Triangle Mountain and Hatley Park.

   Colwood will be reviewing and updating the OCP during the next Council term. My priority if elected is to ensure that greater emphasis is placed on the future vision for our established neighbourhoods as part of the OCP update.

4. 

   Doing a better job of listening to residents’ priorities and concerns before making decisions

   Sometimes small changes in how you do things can make a big difference in making people feel heard and part of decisions.

   I believe we should encourage more and earlier community input to guide Council decisions. If elected I will work with Council to ensure we achieve that objective.
